We are thrilled to announce that this year’s Roy Porter Lecture will be given by Dorothy Porter, Professor in the History of Health Sciences and Chair of the Department of Anthropology, History and Social Medicine at the University of California San Francisco.

The lecture series was established in 2003 in memory of Professor Roy Porter, eminent historian of medicine, science and the Enlightenment. A prolific author, Roy produced more than 200 books on a wealth of subjects before his death in 2002, including histories of geology, madness and psychiatry, the Enlightenment and a social history of London.

The lecture, entitled ‘Creative Disabililty and the Shaking Palsy: Approaching a history of Parkinson’s Disease’ will take place at 18.30 on Wednesday 23 May at Wellcome Collection. A reception will follow in the Wellcome Library at 19.30.

Tickets must be booked in advance by emailing Tracy Tillotson (t.tillotson@wellcome.ac.uk) or by calling 020 7611 8486.
