We promised to keep you updated on changes to our services during the building works and here’s our first update on a change to our advertised plans.

The news
This is good news if you’re a Rare Materials Room user. We’ve been given an extra week in our existing location, and we don’t need to move upstairs to the temporary location until Tuesday 13 August.

What this means for you
The Rare Materials Room on the 3rd floor will remain open until Saturday 10th August at 16.00. It will be business as usual until then. There’s no need to book a space while we’re still there, as there is plenty of room for everyone.

As previously advertised, we’ll be closing on Mondays during the next phase of building works, so we’ll be closed on Mondays from 12 August until 31 March 2014.

When the Library reopens on Tuesday 13 August the Rare Materials Room will be in its new temporary location on the 5th floor. There will be fewer desks available, so if you want to use the Rare Materials Room then make sure you pre-book a space by emailing library@wellcome.ac.uk

What about my requests?
If you’ve ordered up items from the stores, they’ll remain in the Rare Materials Room until Saturday 10th August unless the holds expire in the meantime.

If you have booked a Rare Materials Room space for Tuesday 13th August onwards, then we can transfer the books to the new location. You won’t need to do anything else.

If you haven’t booked a space, we’ll cancel the holds and return the books to the stacks. If you’d like to come back in and look at the items at a later date, make a note of the items you’ve been consulting. You can request them for consultation when you’re ready to return and then  make a booking for a space in the Rare Materials Room.

If you need any more information, just drop library enquiries a line, or give us a call on 020 7611 8722
