We thought we’d update you on how things are progressing with the Wellcome Collection Development Project.

Thanks for your patience over the past few months. Works are progressing well, and we’ve been striving to maintain as hospitable an environment as possible during the works.

Cloakroom and coats
The temporary cloakroom can be accessed via the lift or stairs and is located on Level – L2, which is the very lowest level of the building. Remember, we don’t allow coats to be taken in to the Library, so please put them in the cloakroom or in one of the lockers in the Library.

Monday closures
We will continue to be closed on Mondays until 31 March 2014.

Online resources are available to Library members as usual.

Advance booking to use the Temporary Rare Materials Room
The temporary Rare Materials Room is located on the 5th floor. If you’d like to use the Rare Materials Room to view any of the Special Collections you will need to make an advance booking. Just email and staff will assign you a space.

Scanning facilities
Due to space restrictions, we don’t have a scanner in the Temporary Rare Materials Room. Readers can use digital cameras throughout the open access areas of the Library. If you’re working in the Rare Materials Room just have a word with the staff before using your camera to make sure the materials can be photographed: some items have confidentiality and conservation conditions attached.

Noise increases
It has been a little noisier of late during the daytime. The noise will impact on different parts of the Library at different times, and staff should be able to let you know if there are quieter areas to work in should you need to move to another area within the Library. Ear plugs are available from the Enquiry Desk.

Stock moves
At the moment, the Medical Collection is split over the North and South sides of the 3rd floor, but you should be able to find what you are looking for quite easily. As ever, just ask staff if you need any assistance in locating materials.

We’ve put a scanner on the 3rd floor in the newly released area on the South side to save you carrying books down to the 2nd floor scanners.

Library Survival Packs
We appreciate that conditions aren’t ideal at the moment, and we’ve created Survival Packs for Library members to try to make things a little easier. Pick up your free packs from the Enquiry Desk on Level 2.

Keep up-to-date
Up-to-date information about the Library works and any changes to services can be found on the Library website. We advise that you check online before making a visit during the works. You can also follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
