We welcome submissions to the Early Medicine blog. Contributors can explore any aspect of medicine and health in Europe before 1700, from a wide range of perspectives. We particularly encourage articles that focus on the Wellcome Library’s early manuscript and printed collections, and that engage with our digitised content. But the blog also discusses other library and archive collections, as well as conferences, seminars, exhibitions and new publications in the field of early medicine and health.

Articles should be no longer than 700 words, and should include images, ideally selected from our digital collections or Wellcome Images. Longer articles may be serialised into two or more separate blog posts.

Articles will be edited, and we will show you the edited version of your piece prior to publication. Like all other content on the Library’s website, articles in Early Medicine are fully open access and reusable under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 international licence.

If you are interested in contributing to Early Medicine, please contact the commissioning editor Elma Brenner at earlymedicineblog@wellcome.ac.uk. She will be delighted to discuss your ideas with you, and will provide further guidance about submitting your article.

Articles on our current theme, Sex and Reproduction, are particularly welcome. Topics include sex, sexuality and reproductive health, as well as infertility, pregnancy, childbirth and hereditary illness.
